HISTORY

The house was constructed in 1892 and is registered as a Historic Resource in San Luis Obispo County. Built for one of the four original Founders of Paso Robles, RM Shackelford, it was originally used as the livery stable for his mansion on Spring Street.  Shackelford was the local agent for the Southern Pacific Railroad when it first came to town in 1886 and subsequently established the Southern Pacific Milling Company.  He owned extensive property in Paso Robles, where he built warehouses and started lumberyards along the SPR route.

Somewhere along the line, Shackelford declared bankruptcy and R.C. Heaton acquired the property. In 1921, Heaton sold the property to Otto Toev, an immigrant from Russia, and it stayed in the Toev family for four generations until the 1990s. Two more families owned the home and did substantial upgrades on the kitchen, restored all of the woodwork, and added bathrooms. The most recent owners converted the home to a successful Bed & Breakfast, called Emily’s House.

OUR STORY

We purchased the house in January of 2019 with the vision of creating a place where people would come together to share stories and create memories. We wanted an environment where well-loved works seamlessly with what’s up. Where everyone who walks through the door leaves an impression and leaves with a full heart. And where good food and great wine can always be found.
